Hotshots is our new way to celebrate the wonderful women who've found success through us, whether our training has helped them achieve their dream job or career switch, or they've found work directly via our Job Board.  And for July we're checking in with Cat, who is now working part-time for a world-renowned retail brand here in Dubai!  Here's how she did it.

Hopscotch: Hello!  Tell us a bit about yourself.

Cat: Hello, my name is Catherine Janks, originally from Durban, South Africa. I lived in London for 10 years before relocating to Dubai 5 years ago. I have worked in retail, in total, for over 15 years. I've done everything from managing a surf shop to buying for one of the UK's largest e-tailers. I've always known that I wanted to work in fashion/retail, but growing up it wasn't considered a "real" career. However, I never gave up.

H: How long were you trying to find work and what were some of the challenges you encountered?

C: I wasn't actively looking this time, a friend had seen a post and sent it to me. I had wanted to take a year off to spend with my baby, but this was too good an opportunity to pass up. However, when I first relocated to Dubai I could not believe how hard securing opportunities through some agencies could be; I never got follow up calls or emails and I ended up getting all my own interviews. In fact Hopscotch is the first agency who've managed to secure an interview for me. I found it incredibly disheartening as I had never struggled to, at the very least, secure an interview.

H: How did Hopscotch help you?

C: Firstly, the communication was fantastic. I felt I was up to date at all times, I never had to chase anyone for information or feedback. Secondly, and it may seem like a small thing, but for me it was a very big detail, I am a nervous person when it comes to interviews. The team was lovely, calling me before and after the interview. It helped to settle me down and I had a great interview.

H: Describe your job now and the difference it’s made to your life.

C: I now work for one of the world's most valuable brands, however, I am still able to spend a lot of time with my daughter due to the part time hours I am working. It's so wonderful that such a large company is helping moms get back into the work force without having to sacrifice so much precious time with our children.

H: What one piece of advice would you give to others looking to find flexible work?

C: Always go for the interview. You never know where it may lead you.
