Hotshots is our new way to celebrate the wonderful women who've found success through us, whether our training has helped them achieve their dream job or career switch, or they've found work directly via our Job Board. Last month, Asli's story and advice went down a storm, so for June we're checking in with Ashleigh, who is now working on flexible hours for a rather well known designer retailer here in Dubai! Here's how she did it.
H: Hello! Tell us a bit about you.
A: My name is Ashleigh, I’m 30 years old from Scotland and I have been living in the UAE for 4 years with my husband, my daughter who is 1 1/2 years old and our bulldog! I hadn’t been working since moving here although before leaving the UK I was managing the 3 bridal shops of our family business. I have a business management degree and have been working in retail since leaving school.
H: How long were you trying to find work and how did Hopscotch help you?
A: I wasn’t actively looking, I registered my details with Hopscotch after my daughter turned one as I felt ready to go back to work as soon as she was settled in nursery and let fate take hold. Hopscotch contacted me with a job that was perfect for me based on the criteria I gave (part time hours, no evenings, no weekends) something I thought didn’t exist in the retail sector within this country. They did all the leg work in terms of sending my CV, arranging an interview and liaising between the company and myself. They provided support and motivation ahead of the interview and kept in touch afterwards when a role had been offered.
H: Describe your job now and the difference it’s made to your life.
A: I accepted a job as a client advisor with a top designer retailer almost one month ago and it is one of the best decisions I have made to date. I will eventually be on the shop floor selling the incredible products of this designer after completing my thorough training. At the moment I am the main greeter of the store and I am completing the many levels of training you’d expect a company of this stature to have. I have a new sense of responsibility and lots more conversation to have with my husband as we exchange stories from our work life! It’s nice to use my brain in a more productive way again and I now value the quality time I spend with my daughter far more.
H: What one piece of advice would you give to others looking to find flexible work?
A: There is something out there for everyone, be patient and let the right role come to you. I feel so much more fulfilled to be providing for my family again in a job I enjoy, which doesn’t impact on my family/social life whatsoever. I feel incredibly lucky to have this opportunity and have Hopscotch to thank for finding it and putting me forward for the ideal job!
