“We are ecstatic to welcome Hopscotch on board the UN Global Compact Women’s Empowerment Taskforce. Hopscotch represents a company that lives and breathes the seven principles. Their forward leaning approach to recruitment, company engagement, and training programs to support women in the workplace exemplifies what it means to be a WEPs signatory. Hopscotch’s success proves that supporting women in the workplace is good business."  Nicole Malick, UN Global Compact Steering Committee Member and WEPs Co-Chair.

Hopscotch's mission at launch just over a year ago was very simple - we wanted to increase the number of women in the workforce in our region by sourcing flexible work and supporting them on their journey.  Behind the scenes, we've been working diligently to push issues of gender equality and women's empowerment through our relationships with groups like 30% Club, Ellevate and Mompreneurs ME, as well as through our communications with the press, TV, radio and the many, many events that we sponsor and speak at in our region and internationally.

When we started, we could not have conceived just how well-supported our mission would be. We are delighted to have been recognised for our efforts by the United Nations Global Compact, speaking at their recent 2nd Anniversary event, and very excited to announce that our Co-Founder, Helen McGuire, will be part of their Women's Empowerment Principles Task Force in this region.

What does this mean?  Well, the UN Global Compact is the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative.  It is entirely voluntary and urges businesses globally to commit to 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  SDG #5 is 'Gender Equality'.  And that's where Hopscotch comes in.  The Women's Empowerment Principles Taskforce was set up to implement Gender Equality, speaking with businesses and government to ensure it is a priority and urging them to sign up to the programme, which is designed to help them achieve better equality in the workplace and have some accountability towards it. You can find out more right here and if you're a senior business person, we'd also urge you to sign up!

We'll be keeping you updated on our work and how it is helping women in our region and beyond.  For now, raise a glass and celebrate the fact that YOU, as part of our community, made this movement possible.  There is so much more we can achieve together!
