Hopscotch Heroes is all about celebrating women who successfully balance work, life and everything in between; we've featured bloggers, authors, businesswomen and mumpreneurs and here's where we get to pick up some valuable tips on how they manage it all.
This month it's the turn of Sara Hamdan - a writer, blogger at Holidays In Heels, journalist, panel host, part-time Google employee and all round glamorous gal, who just happens to be juggling all of that with her one year old son.
Here’s her take on how and why working works:
"Being a writer is so much more than just a job to me - it's my identity. Pre-baby, I was the Dubai-based culture and business writer for The New York Times for six years. So when I had my son a year and a half ago, the question wasn't whether or not I should work, it was how I could still be 'Sara the Writer' and also become 'Sara the Mom' successfully. Now, a year and a half later, I can't say I've exactly cracked the formula, but I continue to strive for balance between the two. The way that works best for me is by working part time: taking on long term freelance commissions with the likes of Google and popular fashion and travel titles, while actively investing time in my own platform Holidays in Heels, a hotel review site with a style section of what to wear on holiday. I've learned that there is no "right way" to juggle all aspects of your life - only you know what works best for you and your family - and that it's healthy to ask for help. Above all, it's a learning process. High five to all of you working mamas! Now if only we could get paid in sleep…".
